Taiwan AIDS Society | Life is Not a Crime

People with HIV in Taiwan feel unsafe and discriminated against because Article 21(of the HIV Infection Control and Patient Rights Protection Act) states that those who fail to disclose their HIV status face a 12-year jail sentence. Life Is Not A Crime fuelled a people powered movement to overturn Article 21 and de-criminalize HIV by raising the awareness about U=U; Undetectable equals Untransmittable.

The result? The movement delivered the required signatures to overturn Article 21 and resulted in the CDC formally recognized U=U and amended the Criteria of Unsafe Sexual Behavior under Article 21 in July 2021.  People with HIV were freed from the shackles of a discriminatory law for the first time.
