Brewing up an unmissable coffee break curriculum for Taiwan AIDS Society & Taiwan AIDS Nurses Association
Strong doctor-patient relationships enhance the quality of life for people living with HIV (PLWH) – yet over a quarter face diagnostic refusals. Despite legal protections in Taiwan, stigma still results in healthcare rejections driven by fear.
We launched The HIV Café at 24 AIDS-designated hospitals across the nation.
This was a café with a difference. It didn’t just serve coffee, it served hugs. Hugs from people that society was scared to touch. Our movement onboarded 24 AIDS-designated hospitals, with a Public Health Bureau extending to 13 additional medical institutions.
The HIV Café created the highest ever levels of perception change and advocacy amongst Taiwan’s HCPs and set a new record for positive AIDS-related dialogue in Taiwan. 87% of healthcare professionals increased their willingness to treat PWLH after learning about U=U. 7,000 medical staff members joined in. Over 6,500 of them joined the “U-Generation” committing to create an “Undiscriminating” generation for PLWH.
