Since he founded Golin in 1956, Al built our firm from the ground up, transforming Golin from a local company to a global agency that serves many of the world’s most renowned brands, including worldwide food service provider, McDonald’s, whose partnership started with a simple cold call and has grown into one of the firm’s largest clients for almost 60 years. When it came to client service, Al believed that the secret to maintaining long-lasting relationships was to, “never take any long-term client relationship for granted; treat that client as if you just became their partner.”

As a respected public relations legend, Al received abundant industry recognition, including lifetime achievement awards from the Public Relations Society of America, Publicity Club of Chicago and Inside PR magazine, the Gold Anvil Award from the Public Relations Society of America and the Arthur W. Page Society Hall of Fame Award for “Career Achievements and Outstanding Contributions to the Profession.” In 2014, Al was inducted into the PRWeek Hall of Fame.

Al demonstrated admirable composure, which was particularly useful to him during his most embarrassing career moment ever when he leaned back in a client chair during a presentation and flipped over backwards onto the floor. Luckily, he reacted quickly to keep going and the client was impressed.
